7 Metabolism Boosting Exercises you Should be Doing!

Looking for some effective ways to transform your body? Here are a few great exercises that I strongly recommend to help you reach your health and wellness goals. These exercises are simple but effective in strengthening your body and firing up your metabolism. These exercises - performed three to four times a week - in conjunction with a healthy eating plan and sufficient rest will enable you to reshape and tone your body. Exercising smartly is all about selecting effective, metabolism boosting activities that don’t steal hours out of your day. No gym or fancy equipment required, just your body and some strong determination. Here are seven of my highly recommended health enhancing exercises that will help you transform your body in no time.


The squat is a compound, full-body exercise that works more than one muscle group. This powerful exercise helps tone your glutes, strengthen your body and maximize caloric expenditure. To boost your energy output and raise your heart rate give jump squats a try. You can also stay in a squat hold with a dumbbell in each hand to increase resistance and feel the burn. Why not do several squats whilst waiting for your dinner to cook, the kettle to boil, or your PC to boot up? Sometimes multitasking is a great thing!

Jumping Rope

When was the last time you jumped rope? Perhaps in your childhood. Jumping rope is a cheap and easily portable exercise that you can do almost anywhere. This workout burns more calories per minute than any other exercise routine. Get jumping for a super workout and plenty of fun. One of the best things about jumping rope is that you can do it with your kids. Moreover, jumping rope is a fantastic way to fit in a highly effective cardio session when you are on the go. Simply toss your jumping rope in your carry-on and you’re good to go. No need to step foot in a gym. Who said jumping rope is only for kids?


Many people avoid doing pushups since this exercise is a bit harder to perform, but it can do wonders for your body. There are plenty of different pushups that work various muscles in the shoulders and arms. Try to vary your pushup style to keep things interesting. Not only do pushups work the upper body, they also work the core. Do pushups a few days a week to help sculpt your arms and strengthen your core. Pushups are also great for your cardiovascular health and help to improve posture. Just make sure you do them correctly – learn to do pushups with your back straight to reduce back pain and avoid straining your back. If you are unsure about proper form, ask a fit friend who understands correct technique, or one of the trainers at your gym. Correct technique is absolutely key in transforming your body safely and effectively.


To tone the muscles in your legs try lunging. Lunges give you such amazing results because they isolate every leg individually, thereby contributing towards your body transformation. Add some cardio and boost the intensity by performing jump lunges: 3 sets of 10 lunges a day tends to produce the best results. Since lunges are a very effective workout for strengthening, sculpting and building a few muscle groups, why not do them every day? Even if you have a super busy schedule, you can still find time to do several lunges. Stop making excuses and start exercising to transform your body today.

Mountain Climbers

Tired of planking? Try mountain climbers in plank position by raising each leg towards your chest and holding this position with each leg for 10 seconds. You can also raise each leg towards your side to target your oblique’s. Need even more of a burn? Try jumping your mountain climbers by springing each leg forward towards your chest as quickly as possible in a bouncing motion. After just 30 seconds of doing this, believe me you will feel a burn like no other. This is a full body workout all in one exercise that targets your core, arms, shoulders, legs and glutes.

Knee Highs

No jump rope? No problem. Knee highs are like jumping rope on steroids! 5 -10 sets of 20 knee highs will make you feel as if you have run a marathon. This powerhouse exercise provides a quick and effective calorie crunching cardio workout that targets your legs, glutes, core, and calves. These are also lots of fun and a great way to get the whole family moving.

Interval Sprinting

Many people steer clear of running because of the monotony, length of time required and stamina demanded by this exercise. That is why interval sprints are a perfect way to reap all the benefits of a good run (and then some) in a fraction of the time. Sprinting not only ignites the metabolism and keeps it burning for hours after, but offers enjoyment and challenge. 6 intervals of 80m sprints on the road, in the park or on the treadmill is all it takes to incinerate those unwanted calories. Sprinting is a great way to relieve stress, improve your heart health, reduce the risk of depression, burn mega calories and improve your overall wellbeing. Interval sprinting can transform the body like nothing else by building strong, toned legs and melting away fat stores.
