Spiced Ayurvedic Hot Coco

11 April 2016

With the cold weather approaching, nothing satisfies quite like a steamy cup of hot coco. And as you know, I always love to spice up my traditional favourites by making nutritionally smart ingredient swaps. According to Ayurvedic medicine, warming spices such as cinnamon and cardamom can help boost energy levels and metabolism. And by swapping dairy milk with coconut milk, this ensures that the antioxidants found in coco are more fully absorbed. Nutritionally good for your body, and delish!

Prep Time 10 mins | Serves 4

1 litre coconut milk

3 tbsp. cacao or coco powder

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom

ΒΌ tsp. ground cloves

1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper

1 tsp. vanilla extract (you can also use vanilla pods)

1/8 teaspoon coarse salt

2 tsp. stevia / agave nectar

Step 1:

In a small saucepan, combine all ingredients and whisk over medium-low heat until all ingredients are well combined and the mixture is steaming hot, about 5 minutes.

Step 2:

Serve hot and enjoy!
